2026 Summer Evening Talks

 

By popular demand, we are pleased to announce a new series of Summer Talks.

The talks will take place at Priory Methodist Church, Newnham Avenue, Bedford, MK41 9QJ, starting at 7.15pm and lasting approximately 2 hours. Tea and biscuits will be provided.

 

Admission is £3.00 (cash, exact if possible), payable at the door, to cover hall hire.

  • Monday 8 June - Chris Evans will present on the Design and Construction of the 3.4km long Colne ValleyViaduct and 16km long Chiltern Tunnels on HS2. Chris will use photographs, video and graphics to explain how this complex piece of civil engineering works has been constructed.

  • Monday 13 July - Luke McCarthy, extended scope specialist Podiatrist and founder of My Foot Medic, will be giving expert advice on how to look after your feet. From injury prevention to general nail and skin care and how to keep you moving at your best.

  • Monday 14 September - Brian Gubbins will give a talk entitled “The Mystery of the Cabin Boy Lost At Sea”, a who-done-it of sorts, that incorporates Brian’s extensive knowledge of genealogy. The story will be told in a similar fashion to the “Who Do You Think You Are?” television program and is non-technical so does not require any previous knowledge of family history research.

Spring outing by train to Sevenoaks - Saturday 29 March​ 2025

Starting our walk from the train station in the delightful town of Sevenoaks, this walk of approx 10 miles called briefly at two National Trust properties. Click HERE for full details.

Dawn Chorus Walk - Saturday 3 May 2025 @ 5am

Our expert bird watchers, John and Roy led a 4 - 5 mile walk around the Priory Lake area, followed by optional breakfast at the Beefeater.  Click HERE for full details.

Climb the Millenium Dome - Saturday 21 June 2025

An intrepid band of IVW members took part in the ascent and descent of the Millennium Dome in North Greenwich, followed by an optional 5 - 6 mile walk. It is claimed that on a clear day a view of 15 miles into the distance is possible!
