On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of November 2009, the Ivel Valley Walkers celebrated their 25th anniversary.
To mark this landmark, it was decided that we would hold series of events commencing with a celebratory dinner and culminating with a 25 mile walk in the Summer of 2010.
The anniversary dinner was held at the Green Man at Stanford, where 50 people enjoyed an evening of good food and merryment.
The following day, saw the usual Sunday morning walk, this week starting from Old Warden Village Hall. Despite the forecast of wind and rain we were joined by nearly 40 walkers to enjoy a 7 mile circlular walk, which included Cardington Hangers and parts of the Greensand Ridge.
This was followed by an afternoon ramble around the Southill Estate, including areas not normally open to the public.
After all the walking, in excess of 80 revellers enjoyed tea and scones in the village Hall. Which included a celebration cake and the launch of the IVW's latest book "Favourite Walks In and Around Bedfordshire".
The events will continue with a Barn Dance at Houghton Conquest Village Hall in March and will end with a series of walks in one day, including a 25 mile marathon walk, next Summer.
